Newport Beach police arrested “Real Housewives of Orange County” star Shannon Beador over the weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence and a hit-and-run, authorities said.
Bedore, 59, was arrested at 1:17 a.m. Sunday on Via Lido near Via Oporto on charges of driving while intoxicated and causing injury and property damage before fleeing, said Sgt. Steve Oberon, Newport Beach Police spokesman. Oberon said the crimes he was charged with were misdemeanors. He declined to comment further on the incident and said officers had not yet finished submitting their report to supervisors.
The reality TV star’s attorney, Mike Fell, told the Times, “I spent quite a bit of time with Shannon yesterday. He is very apologetic and remorseful. We await the official facts of this case as they become available and Shannon is prepared to accept full responsibility for his actions.”
Police declined to specify what type of property was damaged. The road where the alleged accident occurred runs along the bay of the affluent coastal Orange County town, where private boats are docked. Coffee shops and clothing stores as well as condos and apartments line the water.
Beador, a resident of the Newport Coast community, joined the cast of “Real Housewives of Orange County” in the show’s ninth season in 2014 as a health-conscious mother who chooses organic and other “green” options for her life at home. She quickly became a fan favorite and was voted “Best Housewife” in an online poll rating across Bravo’s “Housewives” TV franchise.
Beador has remained off the show and, last week, was in New York City and appeared on Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live” with fellow show mates Vicki Gunvalson and Tamara Judge. The trio was there to promote the show’s 17th season, which has been airing since June and will run until October. Bedo was also scheduled to appear at BravoCon in Las Vegas this November.
